Many have been waiting to see what ASUS would launch next ever since the companies chairman Jonney Shih took the stage at last month’s AsiaD conference, and teased the next-gen Transformer tablet. He didn’t show any images of the device however, he did give us along list of specs that’ll be featured in the device. He said that it would feature a 10.1-inch display, 8.3mm-thick body, mini-HDMI output, microSD slot and an update to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) by the end of the year, if not sooner. He also mentioned that device would be shipping with Nvidia’s newly announced CPU Tegra 3, making it the first-ever quad-core tablet.
We now have more information on the device thanks to a press release that was issued by ASUS. The tablet will go on sale worldwide in December, starting with a 32GB version of the tablet that will sell for $499, and moving up to $599 for a 64GB model. The keyboard dock that has been seen in pictures of the device will sell separately at $149. We also received some more specs on the device in addition to those that chairman Shih announced last month. We now know that the device will have a 1280 x 800, Super IPS+ Gorilla Glass display with a 178-degree viewing angle and a max brightness of 600 nits. It will also come with 1GB of RAM, GPS, a gyroscope, SonicMaster audio and a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera. Included in this long list of specs will be an 8MP camera with an auto-focusing lens. The device will also be able to capture video in 1080p.
In terms of battery life inital reports have said that the Transformer Prime would have an 14.5-hour runtime, but according to the press release issued by ASUS the battery can only hold 12hr’s worth of charge primarily due to its 22Wh battery. The design of the new tablet is quite beautiful and it looks like ASUS has definitely put in a lot of work on this tablet. Do you plan on picking it up, let us know.
