2K Sports renewing its MLB-themed skills competition

Last year, the people at 2K Sports held a competition to commemorate the release of MLB 2K10,  which featured a number of advanced gameplay features. The competition awarded $1 million to the first user to pitch a verified perfect game after the title’s release.

Earlier today, the company announced they will run the same contest for MLB 2K11, but it will not start until the MLB opening day on April 1, 2011, almost a month after MLB 2K11’s March 8, 2011 release.

“2K Sports made video game history last year by giving away $1 million in the Perfect Game Challenge,” said Jason Argent vice president of marketing at 2K Sports. “We’re thrilled to be giving our fans – from skilled players to novices – another shot at the prize money with Major League Baseball 2K11 . Our cover athlete, Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies, is one of those rare pitchers to have thrown a perfect game and we think that it’s only fitting that he’ll be inspiring gamers to step onto the mound for their chance at perfection.”

The news about 2K11’s continuation of the contest is accompanied by a price reduction on copies of MLB 2K10. 2K Sports has reduced the msrp for last year’s console version of the game to $29.99.
