PlayStation Plus Increasing in Price

It seems like European and British PlayStation Plus subscribers will be seeing a small increase in the price of the service, according to Sony.

The change won’t affect citizens in the rest of the world, but those contained within the European continent will be seeing an increase in their month and three-month packages while the annual price of PlayStation Plus stays the same. According to Sony“From 1st September we will be increasing the price of monthly and three month PlayStation Plus subscriptions in line with market conditions.” The amount that the prices will change by hasn’t been disclosed, but it seems like it will be a notable (and perhaps steady) increase for the subscribers.

First of all, it is important to note that the rest of the world hasn’t been exempt from this yet, they will simply remain unaffected for the time being. Secondly, the price of annual subscriptions won’t change, meaning that the most “loyal” customers will also be unaffected by the change. This is likely a move by Sony to encourage people to buy the annual subscriptions rather than the monthly or quarterly subscriptions.

These are the current services provided to PlayStation Plus users.

Currently in Europe and the UK, the price of a monthly subscription is £5.49 (9.99€) , and the price of a quarterly subscription is £11.99 (17.99€). Meanwhile, the price of the annual subscription which will remain unchanged, is £39.99 (49.99€). Thus, the increase in prices will, more than anything, benefit long-term consumers and only hurt those who buy PlayStation Plus in small amounts.
