Fanatical Tech | Razer Moray+ Review

You know that feeling you get when you’re listening to music but can still hear the outside world? I sure don’t thanks to my Razer Moray+ headphones.

I won’t lie that I was a bit skeptical about their price tag. Why would I spend $45-plus on earbuds? I owned several pairs and they all did the job: allowed me to listen to music. After a fateful purchase and subsequent plane ride, that all changed. I boarded a flight from Cincinnati, Ohio to Las Vegas, Nevada, put my headphones in, and heard the soothing sounds of Brand New. Nothing else; no plane, no flight attendant, no passengers. Just music.

It was glorious.

If anything, the Moray headphones are a bit too good. At times, the sound was coming in far too hot, resulting in a cracking noise being audible when I had my phone set to max volume. This issue was immediately resolved by lowering the volume. Hmm…I guess I should listen to that warning my phone gives me about turning the sound up so loud. Truth be told, I didn’t really need it on full blast. Even at about 75%, the music completely drains out the sound of my lawnmower. My ears do experience some discomfort, but that’s not due to the headphones themselves; they’re extremely comfortable. Instead, my ears are ringing after about an hour’s usage. Perhaps something’s up to where they boost the sound a bit too much? The ringing stops after a few minutes, but I honestly can’t imagine it’s good for my hearing.

Enough about the sound quality, though. Let’s talk about the headset itself. It is, admittedly, a bit lacking in a couple different departments. There’s no volume control on the headset or USB option to plug into a PC or laptop. In the latter department, the cord is fairly long, so it shouldn’t be a problem, but it still needs to be said considering the fact that it comes with adapters for virtually every device imaginable. While, yes, there’s a headphone jack on every laptop and PC and my desktop is lucky enough to have a headphone jack in the front as well, this isn’t the case on every tower. A USB adapter would have been a nice addition.

But these are minor concerns. The sound quality on these bad boys is top notch. They’re far more comfortable than any other headset I’ve used. Oh, and they sound a heck of a lot better than headsets that retail for double the price.

The Razer Moray+ is so good, I’ve bought them twice. One before recording video footage in Vegas and a second time after I lost them. Hopefully you won’t be as unlucky myself and only have to buy them once.
