Another XCOM title in development already? Whoa, 2K Games, let’s slow down here. You’ve already got 2K Marin on that other XCOM project. Feeling a little bit ambitious lately?

Firaxis Games, the same fellows behind the Sid Meier’s Civilization games are working on XCOM: Enemy Unknown. As expected, this game is going to heavily focus on strategy. You’ll play as an XCOM commander fighting an alien invasion.

“We’re looking forward to building upon the core gameplay experiences that fans of the original X-COM love, while introducing the franchise to a new generation,”

“With Firaxis’ XCOM: Enemy Unknown and 2K Marin’s upcoming XCOM, 2K Games will be offering two different gameplay experiences drawing from the classic X-COM universe. Each game offers a unique XCOM experience in different genres, as envisioned by two different studios with unique creative visions,” said Sarah Anderson, 2K senior vice president of marketing.

Coincidentally with the announcement, Steam is also offering a discount on XCOM: The Complete Pack for only $5.09.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is set to be released in Fall 2012.
