Project X Zone Makes the Leap to North America

Today, January 21, NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. announced a North and Latin America release of a game under the working title Project X Zone, coming to the Nintendo 3DS in summer of this year.  This new strategy RPG will combine characters from Sega, Capcom, and NAMCO BANDAI in an exciting new cross-over release.

Some screens, including Mega Man and Dante among others.

With Banpresto and Monolith Soft behind the wheel for development, this title will pull more than 50 characters from a whopping 29 classic games from these three long-standing Japanese companies, where players create a two-man team from the roster to explore the game, a mechanic dubbed a Pair Unit.  A Solo Unit, as well, can join the Pair Unit for separate attacking during combat or to help strengthen the two-character team’s attacks.  Project X Zone calls for players to familiarize, and even master, several different types of attacks, including Solo and Support Attacks, Cross Hits, and a gamer favorite, the Finishing Move, against a myriad collection of enemies in the game’s world.

Of this new venture, NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc.’s VP of marketing, Carlson Choi, says, “Project X Zone is the first title ever to combine such a large cast of characters from a varied list of game franchises into one grand adventure,” and remarked that, “Developing a cohesive game and storyline to encompass all of these great characters and their battle-styes was a huge challenge that has paid off greatly with the creation of a truly unique and groundbreaking gaming experience.”

Showcasing some Street Fighter favorites.

The game takes place in a setting that highlights the darker side that lies under a seemingly peaceful and normal world.  A portal between universes rips through space and time, bringing with it characters and antagonists from these varied worlds to appear.  Some of the choices available to gamers will include Toma and Cyrille from Shining Force EXA,Xiaoyu and Jin from the Tekkenseries, and X and Zero from Mega Man X, and many more, in an RPG experience sure to thrill gamers of these titles and the many others referenced in Project X Zone.
