Gamescom 2012 | SteelSeries Gives Players More Freedom

SteelSeries gives gamers a peek at their new product line as Gamescom opens. The new Freedom to Play line is designed to add new levels of functionality to mobile devices. These products range from headsets to full-on PC-compatible controllers.

The first is the SteelSeries Free Mobile Gaming Controller. This controller, inspired by early Nintendo controllers and the PlayStation Dualshock, connects via Bluetooth, allowing you to play with a physical gamepad. Its powerful battery will last for 10-hours of non-stop gaming, but will last for 20 if you’re taking it a bit easier. It is fully configurable with PC or Mac, and will release this October at a price point of $79.99.

The SteelSeries Flux Headset is an on-ear, fully customizable, lightweight headset. It features interchangeable plugs for PC or Mac, has two microphone inputs, one of which can be used to share the sound, and crisp 40mm drivers. It will also be available this October for $99.99.

If you prefer something smaller, the SteelSeries Flux In-Ear Pro Headset can accommodate you. The balanced armature speakers “allows users to hear new layers, levels and subtle sounds that they’ve never been able to experience before.” It features volume, call, and music controls, a tangle-free cable, and comes in three sizes to fit any ear. You’ll have to wait a little longer for these, as they won’t be available until November of this year. They will debut at $129.99.

Finally, the SteelSeries Free Touchscreen Gaming Controls will allow for a cheaper solution for physical controls on the go. Instead of a full controller, these simply stick to your device, effectively making your touch device the controller. The high-grade suction cups can be wiped clean to ensure that they’ll always stick. These will debut sometime during the holidays, and will run you about $19.99.
