E3 2012 | Black Ops II Ups The Ante

The last time I played a  game was Modern Warfare 2, a title I begrudgingly picked up on ; I played Modern Warfare extensively on . So, could II gain my interest?

Somehow, it did.  And it wasn’t with the game’s campaign, which handles a little smoother than other titles, though the demo behind closed doors was still loud, noisy, and packed with explosions. But it was the Strike Force mode that really had me interested. More on that later, let’s talk about the campaign for a second.

We saw a longer portion of the demo we first saw back at ’s press conference. I’m still wondering why exactly the President is being brought into war zone, other than for “dramatic” reasons, but nonetheless, we progressed. The level opens in typical Call of Duty fashion: loud explosions, typical firefights, kill the enemies, move on. Pacing is still an issue, as Treyarch is catering to the ADD/high octane crowd.

On the plus, however, the game handled a little better and there’s a little more reliance on skill. The sniper, for example, required a little bit of a recharge to have more power, meaning we couldn’t quick scope our enemies down and instead had to wait to pull off the perfect shot. From there we ventured further into the level, ultimately piloting a jet, but the sequence seemed to overstay it’s welcome.

Once the demo was completed, we were then shown the Strike Force mode, a separate single player mode that combines shooting and tactical sequences. This was quite impressive from the get go, with the level, based in Singapore, looking far better than a war torn Los Angeles. Things started out in typical fashion: running towards cover and engaging in a firefight.

Then something interesting happened: we were given an overhead view of the map. See, in Strike Force, you’re able to set various markers for your troops to move in on, call in air strikes, and set up your routes accordingly. Oh, an then you can man a mech or an air drone.

So, while the campaign offers more of the same, Strike Force is a really intriguing feature that could be a reason to pick  up if you’re not caught in the Call of Duty craze like myself. Treyarch promised that Strike Force would affect the outcome of the campaign, a feature they didn’t elaborate on, so count us interested to learn more before the game’s holiday launch.

it seems to me that about 90% of our troops losses are down to I.E.D.s we could fly right by them get in and out fast ,strike almost without warning and reduce battle fatigue significantly by avoiding many dangerous hours on the road.

  2. I was watching strike force and i couldn’t watch 10 minutes of it. I counted so many mistakes they were making. they look like they dont know what they are doing. Why is that?

All BS aside, we know Fedor’s manager fuc*ed him on that deal. It just wasn’t going to happen with out a co-promotion.

Looking ahead and “saying” Fedor cleans out strike force there is nothing left but the UFC and he is free from M!1 global contracts. Does Fedor sign and become the HW champ?

  4. I think the Black Ops story is great and I understand the whole campaign. I want to see if he dies or really doesn’t die but hiding. Many rumours in this game too. You think Activision should make a DLC how he escapes or tried to escape and died bravely?
    Sorry…Treyarch made the game

It is so obvious now they are just using it as a cash cow rather than being innovative. This is ridiculous.

  6. for the guitars, apparentely after Activision picked up Rock Band they refused to have the compatibility for use with the guitars (you can use guitar hero guitars in rock band and visa versa) are they going to work that out or have they? and when will Rock Band guitars be available for individual sale?

    - they made a big mess of Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, and several other titles.

    - now they are making a goldeneye remake and I seen them talking about the game on youtube, and it looks like they completely messed it up already.

  8. Straight out of the box the strum bar on the guitar was extremely squeaky and it is very annoying. I was wondering how i could send it back in return for a new one. The store i bought it from won’t return it either. I also went to the activision website for support and i tried sending them an email type thing and i don’t think it went through!

  9. I have a WII and was just wondering because Best Buy has the Activision – Band Hero super package for 149.99 (sale from 199.99) and RockBand is 199.99. This will be played on my 42″ tv. Please help…
Does band heros play with RockBand at all?

  10. They have been talking about it, and Activision said it would like to/ and probably will, start charging people to play online with call of duty. I honestly think i would try to boycott the game if that happened. What would you do?

  11. It seems like Blizzard was a much better company without Activision. The only thing Blizzard got was a reputation of being greedy. They are probably going to release 5 expansion packs/DLCs for Diablo 3 and force people to buy it.

  12. Im going mad playing this game. I have the best connection out of anyone I know. On psn or otherwise.. Yet somehow Im getting owned by laggers. I don’t see how Im doing so bad with such a great connection… and im not new to it i have over a 2.0 kd

  13. It’s basically the same game each year and people still buy it , they don’t even care that it’s the same game. I bet Activision laughing at all the people who bought their re-skin game.

  14. I am talking about how they get the dlc early. I heard that it will end at the beginning of 2012 but idk for sure.
