Good news for cross-play and cross-buy friends out there. Microsoft has confirmed that all their new games will belong to the Xbox Play Anywhere program.
This announcement was probably a matter of time. But it arrives with a reassuring vibe nevertheless. Microsoft’s corporate vice president Yusuf Mehdi has confirmed on the Windows blog that “every new title published from Microsoft Studios will support Xbox Play Anywhere and will be easily accessible in the Windows Store”.
As of now, 12 titles have been confirmed for this cross-play program – click here to access the full list. Surely, that number will increase with every passing month so expect to see further announcements around Halo 6 and Forza Motorsport 7, for instance. Remember as well that it’s only possible to get access to both versions only if you buy your games digitally.
Xbox Play Anywhere Arrives in September
The Xbox Play Anywhere was announced with all due honors back in E3 2016. In truth, it was probably the most eye-catching mantra during Microsoft’s panel – along with the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio teasers, of course.
The program allows you to unlock a game for both Windows 10 and Xbox One by purchasing a single copy. Saves, progress and achievements will then be shared between and transferred across versions. On top of that, there will be a cross-play functionality between the platforms. Whether this will include PvP modes in the future remains to be seen but the complete list of titles only contemplate Co-Op cross-play modalities at the moment.
Xbox Play Anywhere is launching this September along with the arrival of ReCore. Future games include Forza Horizon 3, Scalebound and the highly-awaited Gears of War 4. Further down the line we have other ones such as ARK: Survival Evolved and Sea of Thieves, which will surely benefit a great deal from the cross-play functionality.
And you, what do you think about cross-play? Let us know!
