While this has been rumored for a long time, more details are beginning to squirm between the cracks about the unveiling of both Microsoft and Sony‘s next-generation consoles, possibly at E3 in June.
Why is this such a big deal? This is the first time in history that the three console companies will be going head-to-head-to-head with each other. While Nintendo‘s Wii U has already been announced, both Sony and Microsoft have yet to unveil their consoles. MCV’s sources are saying that the big unveiling will happen for both companies, which means that people should walk away from E3 seeing the future of gaming from all three perspectives. Sony executives have their sites set on not being left behind as they were this generation.
On the flip-side, Nintendo needs to announce something big at E3 in order to maintain interest in their new console as well, or they may fall down with a case of Dreamcast-syndrome with all eyes being on the new Xbox and the PlayStation 4. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. At the same time, let’s hope these companies aren’t rushing their products out simply for the sake of competition. We all know what happened this gen, right?
