What We Played for Week 8

Welcome to Press Start (What We Played)! This is a weekly segment that dives into what we here at The Game Fanatics have played during this past week. What did you game?

Darrin: Finished up Spec Ops: The Line. There are four possible endings, but the one common thread between them is a giant swerve that I never saw coming. Finally started Just Cause 2… For a guy who loves randomly blowing stuff up, how did I not try this game sooner?

Jen: Got in the mood to sing along in Rock Band 3. Shame I couldn’t find anyone to play with. It has been getting harder and harder to hook up with people in Rock Band 3. Finished up the first season of Spartan Ops in Halo 4. I cannot wait for the next season to start up. I love how 343 is doing these episodes, ingenious! And of course I played some SWTOR.

Matthew: I’ve been playing Aliens Colonial Marines. Well, it’s Aliens. It’s very fan oriented type of game; it’s definitely not for all the people who saw this as more than a run-n-gun type of game. It’s pretty linear and is centered around dark, tight corridors, like the movie. The gunplay is decent, but it’s not as accurate and fast paced as CoD. It’s very easy to die, as expected, from those powerful Xeno’s; however, it’s also quite easy to kill them. It’s when the Xeno’s swarm up that they are a true danger.

3dsArnellArnell: I beat Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for the first time ever! It was one of the few Zelda titles I never completed and it was a tough challenge. If it weren’t for restore points on the 3DS VC version, I don’t think I would have been able to finish this adventure, but I’m so happy that I finally did.

Jeff: This week, I picked up Platinum and Kojima Productions‘ latest, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The game never sold me on its silly title, but I did get hooked on the fun combat and quick pacing. For more on what I thought of Metal Gear Rising, check out our review.

Jake: Been toying around with Crysis 3, Heroes of Newerth, and Fire Emblem Awakening.

Ben: Beat Max Payne 3 and it was pretty dang good. Thought the story was well told and the shooting was intense. Plus, the ending was really sweet.
Still making my way through Final Fantasy 9 and enjoying it quite a bit. I also checked out the demo for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and it’s still a fun series with some caveats. Check out my demo impressions for details.
