Red Barrels got us all excited when they released the Outlast 2 Trailer that came out late April this year, 6 months later the demo was released. If you didn’t get a chance to play it, we’ve got our playthrough on video for ya.
The Outlast 2 Demo starts off exactly the same as the gameplay trailer that came out 6 months prior. You are in control of the main protagonist, Blake Langermann; a cameraman looking for your wife, Lynn. As we have separated somehow. We wander through the nice neighborhood, knocking on doors and asking for help. As we progress further scripted events start to happen and all i can say is you better have brought a spare pair of underwear, you’re gonna need it. Jump scares are well placed within the game’s demo, but it’s not only that which makes Outlast 2 demo the scariest game ever. The amazing noises and sounds that are created in the demo are astounding. The environment creates a very realistic sense of fear, vacant houses and all alone; or are we? The game controls are very smooth and precise. The rumble motors in the controller also add to the environmental fear as they activate on uneven footing, jump scares and other scripted scary events.
The demo is very straight forward and leaves little to no exploring which is known is the previous Outlast games. The Demo took us from scene to scene, but the scares were very real and you wont be disappointed. But what is it that makes this game so scary compared to other horror games in the market? well first of all the realistic quality of the graphics help us immerse ourselves into the game. Being alone, but having that sense that there is someone in the background watching you and could possibly kill you is quite nerve-racking. Darkness in a horror game is must and it is intertwined very well in outlast 2. We are a cameraman, so of course we have a camera that has night vision to help us navigate our terrain and jump scares. The environment is very decayed, dark and bloody. With humanoid mutilations in every corner and religion being pulled into the background, puts us off as human beings.
I won’t spoil the ending for you, but this demo was amazing and if you’re brave enough to venture into the world of Outlast, take a look at the video!
