Unreal Engine, designed by Epic Games, was first introduced in 1998. Since then it’s gone through many changes and improvements to enhance the experience for gamers worldwide.
At the 2012 Game Developers Conference they unveiled Unreal Engine 4 to developers and two years later we’re going to start seeing what the engine can really do.
In their most recent Inside Unreal video, Epic Games gives us a taste of what can be done within the engine to create a true Hollywood quality cinematic experience. There are a handful of games slated for 2014 releases that are built on Unreal Engine 4: Tequila Works’ RIME, Dark Synergy Studios’ Wake Up Call and Epic Games’ own Fortnite to name a few. While the majority of releases this year built upon Unreal Engine will be developed using version 3, we’re going to see an exponential increase in the adoption of Unreal Engine 4 as time goes on. The visual effects shown in the tech demonstration above are going to make for some amazing moments in gaming history, and we cannot wait to see what developers have in store for us next.
