The Uncharted film has been on a rough road to development. Despite this, Sony has announced when we can expect to see Nathan Drake on the big screen in the near future.
Originally announced in 2009, we have seen Nathan Drake cast and three directors attached to the film at one point or another.
The first director that was committed to the film was The Fighter director, David O. Russell. However, there was a lot of backlash from fans as the director cast Mark Wahlberg as the wise-cracking action hero and the director comparing his Uncharted film to the Sopranos.
David O. Russell left the film and Limitless director, Neil Burger, was attached to direct the film soon after. However, Burger eventually dropped out of the project and went on to direct Divergent. Horrible Bosses director, Seth Gordon, was the latest director to take over the film, but he recently dropped out as well.
Despite the film being on a rough road to development, it looks like Sony still has faith in the film. The studio has announced that the release date of the film is June 30th, 2017. This puts the film just a week after Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman film.
While Mark Wahlberg was once cast to play Nathan Drake in the Uncharted film, Chris Pratt recently said he turned down the role in the past, according to GameSpot. Who would you like to see play Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted film? Let us know in the comments below.
