Two Years Too Late, Warframe Hacked…in 2014

Even the Warframe space ninjas can get caught flat on their feet. In a recent post by Digital Extremes on their Warframe forum they have notified the public of a hack. A hack that happened two years ago.

It appears that in November of 2014 there was a breach in the account server. Digital Extremes were under the impression that it was a phishing scam as no alerts had occurred. This was the result of an exploit run through Drupal SQL, which Drupal fixed two weeks after occurring. It seems odd that Drupal wouldn’t have informed Digital Extremes of this happening. As a result 775,749 email addresses were acquired by the hackers. No passwords or usernames, so if anyone ever emails you about your Warframe password just keep under lock and key.

Digital Extremes has always been an innovative company. They created their own game engine, The Evolution Engine, in 2008. With incredibly high standards for gameplay and security before they even learned of this hack they created a custom website system to replace Drupal. As a result this new system no longer holds on to account information. Warframe has now since added a two-factor authentication system for extra account security.

Digital Extremes is a small, Canadian based development studio. They have helped create game content for BioShock 2 , Homefront, and The Darkness® II. If you haven’t yet tried their free-to-play game Warframe yet, you should definitely reconsider.

First we can look at the price point. Ideal. Since it’s free. There is also very little game content that you cannot get through hard work and farming. Warframe also covers multiple aspects of gaming needs. You want to run around and cause massive amounts of destruction while staying alive? Fantastic please check out Defense missions. Oh, you kind of wish you had a sport you could play against other players? Well please check out Lunaro, a new addition to the PVP aspect. PVP? Yes that is present too. What about being able to customize almost every aspect of your character, ship and weaponry? That is do-able.

Trinity Prime Warframe
This is Trinity Prime, my main. She stops you from bleeding everywhere.

You like pets? Got ’em. A fan of an active community? Check. Tons of new content and incredible storylines added? Yes, sir. Also maybe it’s time you take a look into this wonder of gaming. In addition there are Tennogen (space ninjas) for pretty much every play style.

Also if you are still unsure, check out my stream or Alexander Layne’s sometime on TheGameFanatic’s Twitch. We would be happy to show you the epic adventures we have in space.
