Eleven years ago, a little developer by the name of Two Tribes released a puzzle/platformer with the peculiar name of Toki Tori. We’ve got a few nuggets (not chicken nuggets, mind you) of info that you probably didn’t know.In celebration of Toki Tori’s release on the 3DS eShop, developer Two Tribes is releasing little tidbits of trivia from their very first game. You can read it all here, but here’s some of the more interesting bits:
- The game was originally to be called Eggbert, but publisher Capcom pointed out that it would conflict with another game called Speedy Eggbert.
- Some of the alternate titles Capcom suggested were Fineggle, Boondeggle, and Eggy.
- The name Toki Tori isn’t particularly relevant to the game, it just sounded cool to the team. In Japanese, it means “Time Bird.”
- The original logo for Two Tribes was two sperm, one black and the other white, trying to penetrate an egg. It was deemed too unfriendly for kid and US audiences.
Toki Tori was originally available on Game Boy Color and has since been ported to Windows, WiiWare, iOS, Android, Mac, Linux, and OnLive. A sequel is currently on the way.
