Titanfall Gets a Little Smaller

Leading up to every new generation consoles, there are always a handful of key characteristics we’ve been bombarded with. Every generation boats smarter games, prettier games, faster games, and bigger games. With the launch of the Xbox One, Titanfall looked to be one of those games that checks off almost everything on that list, but that doesn’t look like it’s the case anymore. It’s been confirmed by Vince Zampella, founder of Respawn Entertainment, that Titanfall, as large of a multiplayer experience as it is, will only support twelve-person multiplayer. That’s six players vs six, the same number of players in a standard Call of Duty match.

It comes as no surprise to some, as some chatter can be found on various forums expressing gratitude, but that’s not gratitude towards Respawn Entertainment’s decision. No, people are now glad that they didn’t choose to reserve the game.

These praises may be unwarranted, though. Mr. Zampella explains that 6v6 multiplayer is the optimal balance in a game of ground forces and two-legged tanks, and I’m inclined to believe him. I don’t believe Titanfall was ever to be a Battlefield-sized game, in terms of live players. There will be a lot of AI units fighting along side and against you.

It’s important to note that the game is not finished yet. That means that if enough gamers promise to avoid the game because of the 6v6 live players, Respawn could be pressured to add more live players to the mix.

What do you guys think of this news? Do you think Respawn Entertainment is making the best decision here, or would you rather see a big mess of severed arms and blood littering the map and your Titan? I’m still excited to see the final product. After all, once upon a time, Titanfall made me want to buy an Xbox One.
