Titanfall 2 Undersells But EA Stays Optimistic On The Franchise

While Titanfall 2 has failed to meet EA’s sales expectations, the publisher remains confident that the game will continue to sell in the foreseeable future.

Despite being critically praised by critics and fans alike, Respawn’s highly anticipated sequel unfortunately didn’t grab the Call of Duty crowd’s attention. Obviously, releasing a game near the Call of Duty season is never really a “smart” idea.

During a conversation with the company’s investors, EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed that they are committed to the Titanfall franchise:

“We’re not seeing it as underperformance at this juncture. What we have demonstrated as an organisation is that with great games, we can sell them for many months and often many years. So, the way we think about Titanfall is that we have what is one of the best games of this year, and certainly one of the best games in this generation of consoles. And we’ve got a development team who have unbelievable pedigree and a commitment to continue to support the community, and we expect to continue to grow that community through the coming fiscal year.”

To reinforce his point, Wilson brought up the fact that Battlefield 4 still kept on selling years past its original release date.

Additionally, the fact that Respawn spoils players with waves of free DLC is a great argument in the franchise’s defense. Personally, I finished the campaign a few weeks ago. It was such a fun experience; As a new Titanfall fan, I’m relieved EA plans on keeping it alive.
