Thirty Days of Video Games: Day Eight – Best Soundtrack

Picking the best soundtrack is one of the hardest things to do for this project. There are tracks from almost every video game that I enjoy. You have Starlite and Spring Yard as well as almost every other track from the classic Sonic series, the theme to Halo, music from Super Mario Bros., Starcraft, music from Chrono Trigger and Cross and the entire Final Fantasy series as well as countless other video games. I am a fan of orchestral music as well as 8bit and I’m also attending Video Games Live at the end of the month, so video game music is very important to me.

I feel that the music in a video game is almost as important as the story of the game since the music itself tells a story.

One of my favorite tracks from a game comes from Final Fantasy IX. It is where Zidane looses himself within Terra and he believes that he is truly alone, thus the name of the track, You Are Not Alone. I’ve always felt that thus track speaks to me.

With songs like Baba Yetu from Civ IV winning a Grammy, music from video games have really come a long way. If forced to pick one soundtrack, it would have to be Video Games Live volume 2, simply because it has a mix eight-teen tracks from eight-teen great games.
