The Weeknd and Marvel Teasing a New Project

The Weeknd

Music artist The Weeknd has been teasing something mysterious on his social media channels. All signs are pointing to a collaboration with Marvel to be announced at New York Comic Con this week. The comic convention is later this week and will hopefully shed some light into the mysterious project.

As seen in the Instagram post below, an illustrated image of eyes over an orange backdrop isn’t enough to really go one but his caption seals the deal. While initially the idea of the blockbuster R&B star and Marvel teaming up seems out of the blue, the more you delve into his Starboy persona the more it makes sense.

At the time of Starboy‘s release, The Weeknd spoke with Zane Lowe to discuss the Starboy persona.

“He’s a cool, dope character that makes appearances a lot on the album. He’s definitely made his appearance in different records in the past as well. He’s a more braggadocios character that we all have inside of us.”

This would not be the first time the comics and musicians combined based around their personas. Coldplay has released a comic based on their album Mylo Xyloto; while the Wu-Tang Clan have dipped into the comic realm on more than one occasion. Interestingly enough, Marvel had one of the most surprising combinations of artist and comic characters when they had Punisher cross paths with Eminem.
