The Sims 3, the latest iteration in the long-running, Will Wright-created game series, was the biggest-selling PC game in the world in 2009. EA announced on Friday that the game had outsold games such as World of Warcraft, Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2.
The Sims 3 sold 1.4 million units in its first week and 3.7 million by the end of the June 30, 2009 fiscal quarter. The total figure for the year, which wasn’t released, was gathered from worldwide data collections such as NPD and Chart Tracks. EA also noted that this was the sixth time in ten years that a Sims title was the best-selling PC game in the world.
The Sims 3 allows players to raise virtual people, building homes for them, sending them to work, improving their skills through activities such as working out and reading, making them cook and manipulating their love lives. It is a game that has been popular across many age groups and across both sexes. It was developed by Will Wright, who created the fantastic Sim City series and Spore.
