The Game Fanatics Staff: Tom Bearshaw

The Game Fanatics Staff

Marketing and Public Relations: Tom “Bear” Bearshaw

Tom

Tom has been playing games for as long as he can remember. If there’s free time available, he’ll be playing on something. His preferred platform is PC, even though the Steam sales practically empty his bank account. He’s been at The Game Fanatics for about 2 years now, and is one of the few staff members who can’t yet legally drink in the USA. Good thing, then, that he lives in rainy old England and can drink to his heart’s content. In the past he has written for a newspaper, had many failed money making schemes, and probably spent too much time playing games instead of going outside.

How did you get into gaming/what is your earliest gaming-related memory?

I first got into gaming when I played Super Mario and some awful Star Wars game on my Gameboy. From that moment onwards I was completely hooked. Playing Super Mario 64 was just mind blowing at the time. Going from a tiny black and white screen to an actual 3D game was epic.

What’s your favorite game and why?

Choosing a favorite game is a tough one. I’m going have to cheat and say that any game from the Battlefield series is my favorite. Battlefield 2 on PC got me heavily into online gaming, along with Battlefield 2: Modern Combat on PS2. I still remember hooking up my PS2 with the network adapter and being amazed that I was playing and speaking with people across the country. Plus the community was great, there was no abuse or anything like that. Obviously Battlefield 3 came along years later, and to be honest, I don’t play it too often any more. But when I do, and I get into a decent game, it’s just as great as ever.

What hobbies do you have outside of video games?

My hobbies outside of video games are varied to say the least. I always seem to have one money making scheme or another to keep me busy, along with following the ups and downs that come with being an avid Manchester United fan.

If you could be any video game character, who would it be?

I think that being a Dragonborn in this period of time would be pretty cool. There would have to be dragons somewhere so I could take their souls and Fus Ro Dah everyone. Being the Spy from Team Fortress 2 would be a good shout too.

If you could design your own game, what would be in it?

My own game would be a Lord of the Rings game done perfectly. The full journey to Mordor as Frodo/Sam, all the fights with Aragorn etc, and everything else. Play through the story as you like. Who says Boromir has to die? Every character playable. Middle Earth exactly as described in the books, and fully explorable as well. Chuck in some nicely done multi-player and we’re on to a winner.
