The Game Fanatics Staff
Editor: Greg DeVries
Greg’s been a gamer since the SNES days, and enjoys games of all genres and styles, but is most at home with games where you level up or jump on enemies’ heads. Also, games with swords are pretty great, too. A strong proponent of the underdog, he won’t shy away from giving any indie game a try.
As Comics Editor, Greg’s job is to report on what’s new, noteworthy, and awesome in the world of comics. He tends to lean towards X-Men, Batman, anything dark/violent, or anything Image or Vertigo.
Greg divides his free time between playing video games, visiting the comic book store, and taking care of his two Pembroke Welsh Corgi’s, Quinn and Reilly.
What got you into gaming?
Greg was forced into the shackles of gaming by his so called friends. Many sleepless nights followed and were filled with the NES classics, Super Mario and Duck Hunt. In Middle School Greg was gifted a SNES and he was hooked. Games such as Secret of Mana, Yoshi’s Island, and Mario RPG ensured that Greg would stay a gamer forever.
What do you look for in a game and do you have a standout favorite?
Greg is a fan of any 3rd person action game where you can level up, such as Fable. He also three sets of criteria that he wants in a game: good character customization, good characters, and good combat. Greg says that the Mass Effect Trilogy meets all three almost perfectly.
Are there any genres that you just don’t like?
Sports games. Greg had this to say on the matter: “I just don’t play them.” He also mentioned that he likes strategy and fighting games but is terrible at them.
What is your most wanted HD remake?
Greg couldn’t pick just one game, and why should he?! Final Fantasy 6, Xenogears, and Bushido Blade 2 are the first he came up with. It is worth noting that one of his top choices would have been Zone of the Enders if it hadn’t already happened last year.
Besides games, what else are you into?
Greg got into comics in college, starting with X-Men. He now has several book shelves filled with comics. Additionally, he single-handedly controls the Comics section of The Game Fanatics.
