The Talos Principle is the latest game from Croteam and Devolver Digital, developer and publisher of the Serious Sam games.
Tom Jubert (The Swapper, FTL) and Jonas Kyratzes (Infinite Ocean) are the writers.
Combining these creative teams has resulted in a Portal 2 style first-person puzzler with the philosophical elements of The Swapper. It hopes to offer challening, mindblowing and genuinely thought provoking gameplay. Based on Steam’s “Public Test” for the game, I have no reason to doubt them. The Public Test can be downloaded for free and offers four complex puzzle maps.
“Players are tasked with solving a series of increasingly difficult series of complex puzzles woven into a metaphysical parable about intelligence and meaning in an inevitably doomed world.”
“As if awakening from a deep sleep, you find yourself in a strange, contradictory world of ancient ruins and advanced technology.”
The full release offers over 120 puzzles and will have you diverting drones, disabling turrets and “replicating time”. It’s a game that promises a tale worth telling, asking you to uncover clues, devise theories and interpret events in your own way. Your choices will have consequences, as somebody is always watching you and will be judging you based on the path you take and the way you solve, or fail to solve, puzzles.
The Talos Principle can be pre-ordered on Steam and is coming on December 11. A PS4 release is also on the way but no official launch date has been set.
