Surprise, Surprise– NOT. SWTOR is Fastest Growing MMO

Let’s be honest, is anybody surprised by that headline? Definitely not me.

EA and Bioware announced just a few days ago that Star Wars: The Old Republic has already reached the one-million mark, being the fastest MMO to do so. Besides, the impressive launch numbers, SWTOR also proves that it has some dedicated fans… or that it’s got the same addictive reach as World of Warcraft.

The million SWTOR players are averaging five hours of play a day and in total they’ve logged somewhere in the ballpark of 28 million hours since launch. Judging from the unkempt, un-showered, red-eyed mess that all my SWTOR-playing friends are right now, I’m going to say that those numbers don’t surprise me either.

Oh, and above all this? SWTOR is the fastest growing subscription based MMO to date. This number is based off of those who bought the game on its official launch on December 20th. Four days. One million subscribers. That’s impressive to the point of disgusting. Then again, you’ve got the prize winning formula of Star Wars and a studio with a glistening resume like Bioware. It’s no wonder that SWTOR is doing so well.

Onto the next challenge, then. Does Bioware and SWTOR have what it takes to take down Activision Blizzard’s WoW?
