It hasn’t exactly been the greatest week for the gaming industry…at least not for those who were until recently employed within it. Zipper Interactive, the Seattle-based studio behind the Socom series, MAG and the PS Vita shooter Unit 13 has been officially closed down by Sony. In a statement sent to Game Informer, Sony representatives state that the closure is “…a result of a normal cycle of resource re-alignment within SCE WWS.” Though the studio, which was about 80 employees strong, is getting the axe, the statement went on to say that “… MAG, SOCOM 4 and Unit 13 will continue to be supported, including the new Daily Challenges in Unit 13.” This comes hot on the heels of a story recently reported by Joystiq concerning massive layoffs at Sega.
