Steam Holiday Sale Stretching the Savings

Steam is filling the end of the year with gaming cheer in the form of one of their quarterly, massive sales.

Anyone looking for a nice library of older games to fill the holiday time – or to even keep the kids busy – will be thanking good old Steam through this entire holiday season.

The Steam Holiday Sale start date, which was picked up from the “a little bit of everything” forum site Reddit, is set for December 8th and will run until the second day of the new year; in other words, January 2nd.

Following the Spring, Summer and Fall Sales, this usually marks the final bunch of focused price slashing that the Valve construct sponsors. Those that are waiting can expect even triple-A releases such as Far Cry 4 and Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor to be available for less than retail while old favorites such as the Bioshock games and classic Rockstar titles are often available in collections for less than a single retail disc.

Steam

For those that haven’t taken part in Steam, there are sales on numerous different titles every week including some flash sales that last for 24 hours. This Holiday Sale, however, layers on the number of titles that are discounted until the majority of the sizable Steam library is at blowout prices with large sections of titles added to the mix every day. There is usually a kind of meta-game that runs as well that often results in games from a winning team’s wish list being handed out for free.

With Games for Windows titles jumping ship to Steam, this could be the ideal time to grab PC versions of Dark Souls and Resident Evil 5 among others. The stable, streamlined operating system there will allow for games to be given the proper online backbone for multi-player and save backups.

This is also an ideal opportunity to build up gaming libraries for the upcoming Steam Machines, for those interested, as the first wave of the aforementioned console are set to hit the market in early 2015.
