Today Valve announced Steam Greenlight, a service that allows users to pick what games will get released on Steam.
Steam Greenlight lets developers and publishers upload information on their game with the hopes that the community will support it. If it garners enough support, the game will be put up on Steam. The service will also allow developers to put up early versions of their games and get direct player feedback.
Steam Greenlight should greatly benefit small indie developers that have great games but not a publisher or a marketing budget. It’s a pretty cool idea that I hope ends up working very well for everyone involved.
Steam Greenlight will be released August 30th.
