Starbreeze Will Publish Psychonauts 2

Psychonauts 2

Developer and publisher Starbreeze is holding the publishing reins of Psychonauts 2. The news came yesterday via a blog entry on Starbreeze website as well as a new update on the game’s crowdfunding campaign. The developer will invest $8 million in publishing efforts, receiving 60% of the profits after the investment is recouped. On the other side, Double Fine will keep 100% the intellectual property relating to Psychonauts 2.

In this deal, Starbreeze expands their list of published titles. With Dead by Daylight already in their catalog, they are also looking to publish Raid: World War II. Their titles as developer include Payday 2 and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.

Double Fine founder Tim Schafer appeared yesterday in a dev diary to confirm the partnership as well. “We are excited to be working with them because they are from a development background just like us, and so they know where we’re coming from,” says Schaffer. The video also contains some exclusive footage of the game so you better check it out.

Psychonauts 2 in a Nutshell

Psychonauts 2 is a third-person platform game that follows the steps of its predecessor. We will control Razputin Aquato, a young Psychonaut-in-training with powerful psychic abilities: telekinesis, pyrokinesis and levitation. The game is all about using those powers with some acrobatic skills to explore the mental worlds of other characters – literally. The first game is one of the all-time cult hits in gaming history, and multiple attempts to launch the sequel have started and failed over the last decade.

The game is slated for a 2018 release across PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. But if you cannot wait and have the hardware, you should follow the release of Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, a PSVR game coming this February 21. An appetizer, Rhombus of Ruin will act as a gate between the two main games.

What about you, fanatics? Have you played the original Psychonauts and are waiting for this one? Let us know in the comment section down below.
