This Isn't the Spanish Inquisition It's Dragon Age 3

Everyone and anyone who played at least one of the two Dragon Age games has always known that a third would eventually be devolved. The speculation can now end because EA and Bioware has just announced Dragon Age 3: Inquisition.

Using the Frostbite 2.0 engine, Dragon Age 3: Inquisition is being developed by the same team that brought us Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2, along with a few new faces to the team. This game has been in the works for nearly two years and we should see the release of DA3:I sometime next year. However, the gaming console of choice has not been mentioned yet, therefore it is unclear if Dragon Age 3: Inquisition will be on current generation systems or the next gen.

With the release of Dragon Age 2, many fans had their say about the game and what should have been done to it. With Dragon Age 3, Bioware is listening to the fans, promising “a great story with choices that matter, a massive world to explore, deep customization and combat that is both tactical and visceral”, as said by Bioware General Manager, Aaryn Flynn.

We first picked up the hint about an upcoming Dragon Age game mid last year, and even more before PAX East, and E3 this year, so needless to say, we’d been waiting for the cat to be let out of the bag, officially. Check out the letter posted on the European Dragon Age 2 website as written by Executive Producer Mark Darrah, right here. Here are some key points from said letter:

So here´s what I can confirm for now:

  • The next game will be called Dragon Age III: Inquisition.
  • We won´t be talking about the story of the game today. Though you can make some guesses from the title.
  • This game is being made by a lot of the same team that has been working on Dragon Age since Dragon Age: Origins. It´s composed of both experienced BioWare veterans and talented new developers.
  • We are working on a new engine which we believe will allow us to deliver a more expansive world, better visuals, more reactivity to player choices, and more customization. At PAX East, we talked about armour and followers… Yeah, that kind of customisation. We’ve started with Frostbite 2 from DICE as a foundation to accomplish this.

Our guess at the time, being that Dragon Age II followed the story of the Champion as told under an interrogation, is the revealing of some sort of conspiracy, though we can not even be near certain until more details are announced.

Though Dragon Age II found many skeptics in the industry, we consider the game to be a premier RPG, as is Bioware’s marque style. We’ll definitely keep you updated with more information as we get it.
