Ever since the release of the first BioShock game in 2007, many have thought that the franchise would be great for a Hollywood format. Universal was first to give it a go back in 2008, but the movie was scrapped before production began due to budget issues and hassles with the MPAA over the rating the movie would receive.
Recently however, it has been discovered that there is a new hope for those who wish to see the critically acclaimed BioShock titles displayed on the big screen. Sony Pictures has registered three domain names for such a movie: bioshock-movie.com, bioshock-movie.net, and bio-shock.net. Now, these domain registrations do not necessarily mean anything other than if there is a movie to be made based around the game, Sony Pictures can lay claim to the sites. Who knows? Maybe they have something big in the works.
Given the track record of games to movie failures such as Super Mario Brothers, Prince of Persia and Need for Speed; let us hope this glimmer of light begins to radiate more brightly, and Sony Pictures, or whomever gets to make it, will stick to the BioShock formula; giving fans the film they know BioShock has the potential to be. It is all speculation at the point, but we can always hope, can’t we?
