Sony Fires PlayStation All-Stars Developer

Sony has ended their relationship with the team that worked on PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, sparking questions about the developer’s future.

SuperBot Entertainment was notified today that they’ve been let go, according to Kotaku. The move comes less than two weeks after SuperBot laid off an unknown number of employees; while PlayStation All-Stars has DLC coming (including characters from Gravity Rush and Starhawk) next week from SuperBot, apparently Sony will be handling any further expansions of the game.

While the move initially causes many to question what will happen to SuperBot Entertainment, the company’s Director of Operations, David Yang, told Kotaku things will be alright.

“SuperBot Entertainment can confirm that the relationship with SCEA has ended on good terms. We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work on with Sony on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and are extremely proud of the work we have done. SuperBot Entertainment will continue working on projects that reflect our passion for games and our commitment to creating award winning titles. We are very excited about beginning the next chapter of our future and invite all of our fans and supporters to follow our journey.”

At the moment, Yang doesn’t plan any layoffs.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was initially met with skepticism from gamers, many believing it to be a knock-off of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series. Despite that, the PS3 and Vita releases both got good reviews, praised for the addictive nature of the game and its frantic gameplay.
