Sony Confirms Sucker Punch Layoffs

Sony has confirmed that there were a number of personnel redundancies at Infamous developer Sucker Punch. The exact number of job losses is, however, unknown.

Sony has released a statement expressing its sympathies for those laid off, but did not elaborate on the reasoning for the layoffs. Whether they were a part of standard post-project trimming, or if they were a result of missed expectations currently remains unknown.

“SCEA can confirm a reduction in workforce has taken place at Sucker Punch Productions. Sucker Punch is appreciative of the tremendous work team members contributed to the inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper series, and wishes them the best in their next endeavours.”

This is interesting because Sucker Punch‘s last title, InFamous Second Son, reviewed well, receiving an 80 percent Metacritic average. So you wouldn’t think that these layoffs were because of poor performance, but stranger things have happened. For now, all we know is that Sucker Punch is going to see some down sizing.
