SOE Announces Winner of the G.I.R.L. Scholarship

One of the many demographics that is largely missing in video games is a female presence. Sony has taken a step in the right direction towards fixing this issue with their dedicated scholarship for women. Sony Online Entrainment (SOE) has issued a winner of the fifth annual Gamers in Real Life scholarship (G.I.R.L.).

Quinnen Larsen from Northridge, California has received the $10,000 scholarship for college and associated expenses as well as a ten-week paid internship at Sony Online Entertainment’s San Diego, California location, where her work will be featured in future SOE titles.

Upon finding out the news of her scholarship, Larsen said:
”I was over the moon when I learned that I won the G.I.R.L. scholarship. I can’t thank SOE enough for this opportunity and I look forward to furthering my passion and knowledge for video games.”
The G.I.R.L. program was created to generate more enthusiasm for women to be involved in video games. According to SOE, the program has seen increased participation from women all across the U.S. since it first began in 2008. SOE firmly believes that it is helping women gain a fighting chance in diversifying this growing industry.
