Sonic the Hedgehog is turning 25 this year and SEGA promises to deliver a major announcement concerning the blue blur this year at SXSW.
Next Saturday, March 19th, there will be a free panel celebrating all things speedy blue hedgehog at the SXSW Interactive event. The event looks to be commemorating the original release of Sonic the Hedgehog, which birthed a multimedia brand that has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the course of nearly three decades.
Fronting the panel will be the creator of the franchise himself, Yuji Naka, Head of Sonic Team Takashi Iizaka, and the current Director of Product Development for SEGA of America, Austin Keys. They’ll be accompanied by the hedgehog’s current voice actor, Roger Craig Smith, and Mike Pollack, the voice of the notoriously evil Dr. Robotnik.
SEGA’s big reveal is rumored to be a game changer…but with the only title announced for 2016 being Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice, it may be something outside of a new video game. For anyone who won’t be able to make it to the event, it’ll be livestreamed on Twitch 3:30p.m. CST on March 19th.
