Capcom’s announcement of a Resident Evil 2 Remake caused the Resident Evil Reborn project to cease, but their journey doesn’t end there.
When Capcom originally announced their official, and long-awaited, remake there was a mixed reaction. The first thought was one of joy; many Resident Evil fans were happy to see their favorite series recreated for the current gen. The second thought went out to the team over at Resident Evil Reborn, creators of their own Resident Evil 2 remake and what would happen to their project. The basic aim of Resident Evil Reborn was to achieve exactly what Capcom had not yet tried. This remake was looking promising for fans of the series, and gained quite a substantial following.
Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 Remake would make the Resident Evil Reborn project a fruitless endeavour, and so the team decided to cease development. However, the news is not all sad. The team behind Resident Evil Reborn made quite a surprising announcement on their Facebook page:
“Contrary to what might be thought, this is wonderful news for us and, as fans, we’re so happy that Capcom has DECIDED to take the lead of the project and to develop the remake awaited for years by everybody (nobody could bring back to life the masterpiece of 1998 better than the creators themselves). Meanwhile as developers, we’re honored to announce that we’ve been officially invited to meet Capcom.”
While details are thin, we do know that Capcom plan to meet the team and discuss ideas. The team said that all the work they have put into the project so far will go towards their future projects and the creation of the Resident Evil 2 Remake. We do not know if the team is simply exchanging ideas, or if they will be joining in with the development process. The future for this team looks exciting and hopefully Capcom can open their ears and take the ideas of fans on board.
