Razer Releases Two New Kraken Headsets

The Razer Kraken headsets line is expanding with two new eSports-aimed products. The Razer Kraken Pro V2 and the Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 headsets featuring a new design with a focus on comfort as well as durability.

Both new Kraken models feature a uni-body aluminum headband frame which reduces weight. Cushions have been expanded for more comfort while a better seal around the ears blocks any outside noise. Both models feature 50mm drivers rather than the 40mm drivers of the previous Kraken Pro. Razer says the drivers are “custom-tuned for balanced in-game audio and communications.”

Audio quality and comfort have been maximized in the Kraken Pro V2 model. It has been equipped with “inmold channels” on the inner headband to keep the headset from pressing against glasses frames which is a welcome addition for glasses wearers. This keeps the headset on the wearer’s ears without causing strain from the headset is resting on the glasses. The Kraken V2’s ECM boom microphone bends and retracts just as in previous models.  The inline remote control allows easily management of volume level and mute functions without having to reach up to the headset.  The Razer Kraken Pro V2 will support Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac.

The 7.1 V2 differs from the Pro model in several important ways. As the name suggests, it supports 7.1 surround sound.  The virtual surround sound engine allows for customization for specific positional audio based on individual preference. The 7.1 V2 also has an active noise-cancelling microphone which will be invaluable at eSport events or rowdy LAN parties. The 7.1 also uses a USB connection rather than the usual 3.5mm jack that the Pro model uses. The Kraken 7.1 V2 will support PC, Mac, and PlayStation 4, however, Xbox One use will require an Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter.

The Kraken Pro V2 will retail for $79.99 whereas the Kraken 7.1 V2 will be priced at $99.99. Both Razer Kraken headsets will be available for pre-order this week at the Razer Store while they will be in retailers in October.
