With much of Sony’s time now being taken away from the latest hacker dilemma, they were rejoicing with the reveal of their PS Phone. With that dying down and attention being diverted elsewhere, it was Inevitable for Sony to come early with news that it would be teasing and possibly releasing the next instalment of the PSP series.
The latest reports coming from MCV, has Sony will announce the handheld in the coming weeks (January 27th) in Tokyo, with more coming at GDC and E3 later this year.
The PSP2 will come after the now discontinued PSP-Go that didn’t take off as well as Sony had hoped.
With PSP’s consumer base generally with the PSP 1000-3000 handhelds, the PSP Go was an attempt as a physical media free handheld, relying on downloading games from the online PSN store with the built in Wi-Fi or transfer from a PS3 home console.
Also the PSP2 is said to be powerful as the PS3. Sony said back when they released the PSP that it was capable of producing PS2 quality gaming graphics. Fast forward and the latest God of War and Metal Gear Solid games for the PSP 3000 are pretty close to PS2 graphics. Sony has already told developers about the handheld and probably already have some games in the works.
Expect more on this in the coming months.
