Project Cars for Wii U Has Been Cancelled

The Wii U version of Project Cars has been cancelled, according to developer Slightly Mad Studios.

Slightly Mad Studios have admitted on two occasions about the problems with porting the ambitious title to the less powerful, more difficult, Wii U. Firstly by announcing a series of issues with the development process, and secondly when announcing the delayed launch of the Wii U version. The studio head Ian Bell did state early on in development that:

“It was always ‘maybe’ as we had no knowledge of the system”

This was clear from the very beginning as a Wii U version was not part of the original crowd-funding pitch and was an afterthought. Ian Bell also suggested in his talk with Ninetndo Life that the company was awaiting hardware news from Nintendo before cancelling the title:

“We still haven’t given up on Wii U 100% but if we can’t make it work we will move to the next Nintendo machine.”

But sadly, Nintendo did not announce anything hardware-based at E3 2015, which led to the decision to cancel Project Cars for the Wii U.

Despite all this, the title is still availble for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, PS3 and PC. The game has fallen upon critical acclaim and sounds to be well worth your time.

Slightly Mad Studios have also announced a sequel, so it might be worth picking up the original now to prepare for this future installment.
