It’s morphin time! Lionsgate released the latest trailer for the upcoming live-action reboot for Power Rangers. This newest trailer gives us a first look at the Zords, Alpha 5, Zordon, and more!
When the first Power Rangers trailer came out last year, it was a quick introduction to the story. Today’s trailer throws everything it has at us. It’s just one huge nostalgia overload for fans of the original series.
Power Rangers is the story of five ordinary high school students will have to become extraordinary as an imminent alien threat puts the world in danger. Due to this threat, destiny brings our heroes together and forces them to overcome their real life issues and band together as the Power Rangers to save the world.
The tone of this trailer is a lot different from the first one. The first Power Rangers trailer seemed to be more serious and plot driven. The second trailer brings all the campy, goofy and action that we know Power Rangers to be. Not sure how I feel about the Kanye song for the trailer though. It doesn’t fit that well in my opinion and should have been opted out for something different.
Fans of the original series will notice many things popping up all over. for instance, not only do we see Rita Repulsa but we see her army of Putties fighting the Rangers. Bryan Cranston can be seen and heard as the voice of Zordon, the Power Rangers mentor. Bill Hader’s voice makes a quick appearance as Alpha 5, Zordon’s assistant. It also appears Goldar will appear as a secondary villain to aid Rita.
Of course the biggest reveal in the trailer are the Rangers suited up and fighting with their Zords. The Zords are modeled after prehistoric creatures such as the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Saber-Tooth Tiger and Triceratops. If you have seen just one episode of Power Rangers, then you’ll know it always ends with the Zords combining. This is called the Megazord and is tasked with defeating the enemy. It is no surprise we get to see it form and fight in the trailer.
Power Rangers will hit theaters on March 24th, 2017 starring Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, Ludi Lin, R.J. Cyler, Becky Gome, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks.
