Earlier this year, Sony revealed a fresh batch of details on their plans for the PlayStation 4’s upcoming software update. Two months after the initial reveal at Gamescom, the company has officially released a sneak peek at additional features included within the console’s software update.
Other than pre-existing features that gamers were already aware of, such as the addition of themes and YouTube support, two of the more impressive hallmarks of this software update are the ability to play personal music off a USB drive when playing a game and significant enhancements to live broadcasting.
If you fancy listening to your favorite tracks or artists during an online match in Killzone: Shadow Fall, or simply drowning out the roar of your vehicle’s engine in Driveclub, gamers can now insert a USB drive filled with music into the console. From here, an on-screen prompt for USB Music Player will appear, allowing you to pick a song and sit back as you continue your gaming experience in a new way.
As for the enhancements to the live broadcasting, gamers can now pick a Featured channel of their choosing in order to follow broadcasts from PlayStation, or tune in to their friends or any other game channel they are currently following.
In addition to these fresh features in the software update, there’s also a host of other improvements to consider.
Gamers can now change the color of the home screen from a variety of colors, from gold and blue to pink and gray. PlayStation 4 will also suggest gamers that you might know through mutual friends in the “What’s New” section. Lastly, enhanced voice commands lend a new experience to the console. Players can now say “PlayStation” followed by “All Commands” to open a list of all the new commands that can be given for navigating through the console.
