March 9th, 2017 marked the release of PlayStation 4’s Update 4.50, and it was quite a big one. The new system update sets out to do some pretty impressive things to the already intuitive and smooth user-interface. Features such as external hard-drive support were announced last month.
Here’s a list of all the features included in update 4.50:
- Improved 2D Images on PS VR
- Voice Chat for Remote Play
- Off Console Availability (Indicates when users aren’t logged onto the console but on the app)
- Boost Mode for PlayStation 4 Pro
- Updates to PlayStation Messages and Communities app
The two most exciting features announced were external hard-drive support and boost mode for PlayStation 4 Pro. External hard-drive support may seem like a feature that should have been added years ago but better late than never. With all the AAA releases coming out this spring it’s nice to finally have the option to install them to an external hard-drive.
Boost Mode promises to increase performance on legacy titles that haven’t received a PlayStation 4 Pro update. This update will noticeably increase the frame rate to specific games running at 30 or 60 Hz. Enabling boost mode through the settings does not guarantee an increase in every game.
System software update 4.50 is now available for all users.
