According to different sources, and they seem legit, Sony would be presenting their newest PlayStation 4 “NEO” on September 7 during an event in New York.
Sony went through E3 without adding too much bustle about their revamped console. Unlike Microsoft, who decided to give preeminence to the Xbox One S and Xbox One Scorpio announcements, the Japanese titan went rather tight-lipped about it and focused on their games. The rumors had started a little bit before the big conference though. The Financial Times confirmed later what everyone was expecting from such a rumor – that the upgrade was all about higher resolution rates, CPU, RAM, better graphics for everyone, similar to the Scorpio.
Now, according to the French gaming website Gameblog, Sony is to deliver the first official details about the so called PlayStation 4 NEO this September 7. VICE gaming has then confirmed that they got the same reports from unknown sources. These seem to be trustworthy – and so the wait begins.
PlayStation 4 NEO is the New PlayStation 4.5
Now, when it comes to the specifics of this console, there’s not so much to talk about. We know that this version will have augmented graphical capabilities and also the capacity of running games at 4K. On top of that, Sony confirmed that this console is ready for VR – although the existing PlayStation 4 will also grant support to this platform and its games. With a tad less resolution and power, that is. While that promises of higher performance are already a plus, there’s still to see whether Sony will commit to something else, or how much this will cost to our pockets.
Good news is, we’ll only need to wait one month to see this through. The event is to happen in New York within a “technical showcase” framework. According to the Financial Times, the PlayStation 4 NEO is supposed to “sit alongside and complement the standard PS4”. So we should not expect any dramatic setback or generational quarrels. At least, we hope so.
