What We Played for Week Ending March 18

This is a weekly segment where we share what games we are currently playing for our readers to get to know us a bit better. Said games can range from retro to current and from casual to FPS games. If we’re playing it, we’ll share it. Please feel free to comment with what you’re playing or your opinions on the games that we’re involved with.

Greg: Having finished Mass Effect 3 last week, I’ve plugged my SNES back in and restarted Final Fantasy 3 (6). One of my college roommates wrote a guide recently and I’m playtesting it. Really enjoying it again. Reminds me why it’s one of my all time favorites. I’ve also been trying to complete Amalur, in anticipation of the DLC later this month.

Jason: I’ve been spending some quality time with my PS Vita, mostly with Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. I also got a chance to check out a few of the new Xbox Live Arcade titles like I Am Alive (couldn’t get into) and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (pretty good). I did also get my hands on Street Fighter X Tekken and I have to say I’m not super impressed with how the Tekken characters have translated into Capcom’s stylized world. Still a very fun game and a quirky enough concept to work.

Jeff: I haven’t had much time to game this week, but what little I do have has gone towards Jetpack Joyride, Mirror’s Edge (the console version), and the hilariously bad Martian Gothic: Unification.

Did you like the ending?

Jasdeep: Aside from playing the difficult game of trying to avoid Mass Effect 3 spoilers, I’ve also been busy with Binary Domain and SSX. The former is a robot-heavy third person shooter that really delivers with its pacing and meaty gunplay. The later is a compulsive nightmare that uses its smooth controls and multi-layered trick system to bring out the horrible OCD completionist that lurks inside me. Both great, both worth playing.

Luis: I recently picked up The Sims 3 for my PS3. I love the series, but I really wish I had a PC that could handle it. The game is still fun, but it has its limitations on the console version. (Load times and fluidity of gameplay) I also bought Journey. I played both Flow and Flower from thatgamecompany and I loved them so I was certain I’d be buying Journeyeventually. With all of the rave reviews and such I had been seeing on Twitter, I just couldnt wait any longer. The music is fantastic and the game looks gorgeous. I love the simple gameplay and I have to say all of those reviews were pretty spot on. I just have to get past this finals week so I can finish up both games.

In this case, one of immeasurable dedication towards a reaching an all encompassing goal.

William: Beat Mass Effect 3. I liked everything but the very final cutscene really. The game was pretty good actually, though I’ll still refrain from specifics. The ending of the -game- was good, the ending of the -series- was kinda rubbish. I played Journey this weekend. Was very interesting. It’s basically an attempt at “high art” via a video game format. I’m the type of person who likes that stuff, so thumbs up. Also some more League of Legends. Excited about the new champion they’re introducing, plus some of the gameplay changes (like life steal reductions).

Jen: Mass Effect 3. I’ve finished playing it once on normal and now I’m going to tackle it on insanity. I’ve beaten both Mass Effect games on this level and I want to do it for the third and (possible) final installment.

Charles: Been playing my second playthrough of Mass Effect, with the bonsues you start off with, the second play can be really enjoyable. I’ve also been playing Draw Something!
