OnLive Brings Console Gaming to Mobile Devices

In recent years, mobile gaming has taken astronomical strides. It’s absolutely impressive to see what mobile developers have brought to Android and iOS. So, here we stand, a few years after smartphone and tablet technology have taken us past the post-PC era, wondering where touch devices will take us. How will mobile gaming revolutionize the videogame market? Will mobile gaming ever outdo console gaming?

Sure, for now console gaming technology outpaces mobile gaming. Still, OnLive is blowing the question of how to bring technology seen in console gaming to mobile completely out of the water. Why not use the same solution that PC gamers with slow-PCs have and use OnLive technology on mobile?

Yes, OnLive has brought cloud-gaming to mobile devices.

So, how will these console games work on a touch device with the less-than-stellar primitive touch joysticks?

OnLive isn’t bothering with that either, and instead is releasing the a wireless controller that is compatible with most tablets and phones.

I’ve yet to try out OnLive for mobile, since OnLive, sadly, only has an OnLive Viewer for iOS and my Droid Incredible doesn’t have Gingerbread, which is the OS requirement for OnLive. From initial reviews I’ve read so far, OnLive on mobile is laggy and the technology needs polishing. Still, the fact that you can play console games now on your phone or your tablet is freaking sweet. It’ll make going to the john a completely new experience.

Then again, I’m thinking about the prospect of Skyrim on your phone or tablet, and that thought scares me. Productivity will come to a complete standstill.
