Nintendo Reveals Details on Miiverse Redesign

Miiverse

Earlier this year, Nintendo revealed that Miiverse will be getting an overhaul in terms of the overall structure of the service. For those that aren’t familiar, this Nintendo console exclusive is an online gaming community that can accessed from either your Nintendo Wii U or Nintendo 3DS. It is a place where gamer’s can go and post screenshots, drawings, accomplishments, tips, and messages about their favorite games like Super Smash Bros and Splatoon. Even developers from time to time will hop on and give their fans updates on their current projects.

Miiverse
One of the more creative uses of posts in-game.

With that being said though, Miiverse has it’s fair share of problems. One such problem is that this service can get pretty cluttered and quickly. Say for example a fellow gamer asks how to beat a certain boss, they post their question and wait for an answer. Next thing you know, a conversation between a couple other people starts up and continues to go on and on and now this other person’s post will never get recognized. Everything from drawings, pictures, and people’s messages all get clumped together in these long forums. So if your looking for a post that was posted yesterday or the day before, you are out of luck, unless you want to waste a ton of time scrolling down the page looking for just one post.

Nintendo aims to fix this along with other issues with this new redesign. The company aims to make the service a much more game-centric structure, like it was originally intended.  A Nintendo Representative, Erica, stated,  “First and foremost, Miiverse is created for gamer’s to talk about games – to give everyone the chance to ask questions about a game/app, for example, or if you get stuck and need help in-game.” She goes on to cite problems the company has had in dealing with the evolution of the service to include non-game related chats, and how those talks prevented others from “enjoying their favourite communities to the fullest.” This lead to the decision to redesign the verse and recheck the posting limitations.

Miiverse
Nintendo’s description of some of the changes.

Nintendo has revealed that Miiverse communities will now have separate categories for gamer’s to post in, making it much easier to browse through your favorite communities. There will now be Play Journal, Drawing, and Discussion categories for each community. Play Journal will be for player’s who want to document their experience’s with a game. Drawing is where you can post all of your drawing’s of set game, it will even post the highest rated drawings so you’ll be able to keep track of some really talented artist. Last but not least, their is the Discussion category for gamer’s who just want to talk about the game they are playing.

Some other changes to note are that you will now have your own Screenshot Album in which you’ll be able to store up to 100 photo’s. Also, after the redesign, there will be a combined total of 30 post’s that you can post a day, meaning that hopefully some of the clutter will be taken out and give other people’s post a chance to be seen.

This new redesign definitely seems like a welcome change and will hopefully bring in new and old player’s into the community that may have been turned off by it before. We will update you when more Miiverse information comes out.
