While the frenzy that is E3 has unofficially begun, Nintendo has officially confirmed that one of their American servers was breached several weeks ago. While it’s less serious than the intrusion on Sony’s PlayStation Network servers, due to there being no consumer information on the systems accessed, the same group that attacked Sony has claimed responsibility.
The hacker group LulzSec posted to Twitter Saturday that Nintendo has not had the groups full wraith directed at it as Sony had. “We’re not targeting Nintendo. We like the N64 too much.” The group has claimed responsibility for numerous hacks against multiple Sony branded websites including Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Nintendo claims it has fixed the problem, and that the hacking did not delay the launch of their Nintendo e-Shop for the 3DS.
I can’t help but wonder if Microsoft’s Xbox Live servers will be attacked next.
