New Super Mario Maker Trailer Reveals Tons of New Features

Nintendo has recently released a brand new trailer for Super Mario Maker that shows off a lot of new features that we did not know about.

Let’s get this out of the way and talk about the one new feature that no one expected or really wanted. Super Mario Maker will feature what is dubbed “Time Delayed Content”. One launch day, the game will only allow you to use a set number of tools at your disposal for creating levels. After playing a certain of time each day, the player is given additional tools to create levels with the following day, not the same day that the player played the game. Given the amount of content there is and how much you unlock at a time, it was calculated to make upwards as to 9 days to unlock all the creation tools. This feature was implemented so that new players would not feel so over whelmed with all the different options. This is understandable given how much you are allowed to do in the game, but what about the players who wanted to create their own dream Mario levels right off the bat? What if instead of this, why not before a player creates a level, have them select a skill level like say from Beginner, Intermediate, and Pro. Each setting gives for a certain amount of tools to work with so that way beginners and people with a lot of level creation experience can all enjoy what they want at the same time.

Now on to the good stuff. The game will feature it’s own Sound FX tools. The player is able to drag and drop any sound effect from a list and have it play when either Mario walks past the trigger or hits a block and has the sound effect hidden within it. The sound effects also come with their own visual effects like fireworks, confetti, boulders falling from the ceiling, and more. The player is even able to create their own custom sound effects. The player is given 3 seconds to say whatever they want and have it in their level. Whether or not this feature will be used when sending out your levels to random people over the internet is not known. It is pretty easy to say something that is super offensive in just 3 seconds. The game also has Music Note blocks that you can arrange throughout the level to make your own little song.

If you are having trouble creating your own level, Super Mario Maker will come with pre-made level templates to help players how are having  a hard time getting started. You will also be able to save other players levels you have played and edited them and then send it out for others to play.

Th trailer also revealed two brand new modes, 100 Mario Challenge and 10 Mario Challenge. 100 Mario Challenge has you playing randomly selected user created levels and sees how many levels you are able to clear with 100 lives. Given that the levels are randomly selected every time, there is a good chance that each play through will be completely different, at least until a lot more levels start appearing online. 10 Mario Challenge is pretty much the same but rather than 100 lives you only get 10.

While this isn’t new, Nintendo did show off the Amiibo functionally in the game. It is compatible with most of the Amiibo currently available and will allow to play as an 8-Bit version of that character. Which means now that you will be able to play as Megaman and Sonic in an official Mario platformer, I’ll give you a second to pick up your brain that just blasted out of your head. What’s really awesome is that even if you don’t have a certain Amiibo, because we all know how much of a pain it is to actually get these things, you will be able to unlock them in Super Mario Maker. We can guess that these will be obtained from either spending enough time in the editor, completing the game’s pre-made levels, or completing a certain amount of levels in 100 and 10 Mario Challenge

With less than a month to go, the excitement for Super Mario Maker grows more and more each day. We absolutely cannot wait to see all the creative ideas that all of you have to offer. Keep those idea’s growing, because it’s almost game time!
