New Aliens: Colonial Marines "Kick Ass" Trailer is Awesome, Kicks Ass

Never before has something been more appropriately named than the “Kick Ass” trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines. Starting off with some quick looks at what you’ll have to face down, SEGA’s newest trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines, affectionately titled “Kick Ass“, shows off the work that Borderlands developer Gearbox Software has been putting into the franchise. You get a brief summary of what the game’s story will be about: you’re there for a recovery and extraction mission, and you just so happen to have become the Aliens‘ new choice of entree.

Most of the trailer seems to be from in-game footage and not cutscenes or other pre-rendered sources… you get brief flashes of gunplay and a look at some of Aliens: Colonial Marines‘ characters, all while getting a pep talk from your commanding officer. Graphically, things look good, with Gearbox going for more realistic, and less stylish, visuals than they use in the franchise that made them famous.

Automated turrets, shotguns, and unseen monsters attacking from the ceiling are also on display, as your CO says you’ve got an entire arsenal at your disposal, “so use it.” The best part (aside from a reference to the films that you’ll get immediately when it happens) comes when you’re told you’re not just fighting for humanity, but for a very specific (and not safe for work) title that I won’t repeat here.

Aliens: Colonial Marines hits Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC on February 12th.
