According to a recent tweet by a former EA employee, Mirror’s Edge 2 has been in the works for some time now, and it’s in fact not news in Stockholm, home of EA’s DICE studios. Mirror’s Edge 2 will be the sequel to the free-running masterpiece, Mirror’s Edge.
Cousin’s tweet was in response to an article by the Official Xbox Magazine in which EA’s VP, Patrick Soderlund, shed some light on the studio’s development of non-Battlefield games. Soderlund was bluntly asked why the studio would focus on titles such as Mirror’s Edge when the Battlefield titles are doing exceptionally well, to which he responded: “Well it depends, right? Maybe it is and maybe it isn’t. It’s also important for us – the DICE guys are roughly 300 people in the Stockholm studio; not all of them are working on Battlefield things, and that’s intentional, because we don’t want to become a Battlefield factory.”
We assume that the sequel will take full advantage of the Frostbite 2.0 engine. At least, we hope it does. Seeing as how it’s slowly becoming the norm for EA games (Need for Speed: Most Wanted used it), as well as was developed by DICE for Battlefield 3, we’d be shocked if this wasn’t the case.
We’ve reached out to EA for more information; in the meantime let us know in the comments below if you’re excited for a Mirror’s Edge sequel.
